Without NTEP Certification, Your Scale Isn't Legally Binding
Many suppliers sell "management load bars" as scales—but if you're buying or selling livestock based on weight, those numbers won't hold up. Here's what's at risk:
Transaction Disputes
Non-certified scales can't be used for commercial transactions. If weights are challenged, you have no legal standing.
Wasted Investment
You paid for a "scale" that can't actually be used for buy/sell operations. Now you need to buy again—this time, the right equipment.
State Rejection
Even if equipment looks official, state weights & measures won't verify non-NTEP systems. You can't get the seal you need.
Lost Trust
Buyers won't trust weights from uncertified scales. Your reputation suffers when transactions are questioned.

What Oklahoma Ranchers Say
"We've been using Sooner Scale for over 30 years. They installed our livestock scale in 1992 and it's still accurate today. When we needed recertification last year, they handled everything with the state. Family-owned businesses like this are rare."
"I bought a 'livestock scale' from another company that turned out to be just management bars—couldn't get state verification. Sooner Scale explained the difference, sold me the right NTEP system, and coordinated the state inspection. Now I can buy and sell right here."
"Fast, accurate, and they know their stuff. I called three companies about truck scales—Sooner was the only one who asked about state verification requirements first. They installed it, calibrated it, and had the state out within two weeks. Highly recommend."
Understanding the Difference: Legal-for-Trade vs. Management Bars
Not all scales are created equal. Here's what separates NTEP-certified systems from "management-only" load bars:
Bottom line: If you're buying or selling based on weight, you need Sooner Scale's NTEP-certified systems—not management bars.
Scale Suppliers Should Be Honest About What's Legal for Trade
"Too many ranchers buy equipment thinking it's certified for commerce, only to find out it's 'management only' when they try to get state verification. That's not right. Oklahoma farmers and ranchers deserve clear answers about what they're buying—and equipment that actually meets legal standards."

Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Legal for Trade" actually mean?
"Legal for Trade" means a scale system has been NTEP-certified (National Type Evaluation Program) and can be used in commercial transactions where payment is based on weight. It must be inspected and sealed by state weights and measures officials. Management-only scales lack this certification and cannot legally be used for buy/sell operations.
What's the difference between Sooner Scale systems and "portable load bars"?
Many portable load bars are designed for management purposes only—tracking animal weights for herd health, not commerce. Sooner Scale manufactures NTEP-approved livestock scales with Certificate of Conformance 95-039A2. Our systems use fully electronic components that meet strict accuracy standards and can be state-verified for legal transactions. If you're buying or selling livestock, you need our NTEP systems, not management bars.
How long does it take to get a scale installed and verified?
Installation typically takes 1-2 days depending on the system type and site preparation. Once installed and calibrated, we coordinate with Oklahoma weights and measures for state verification. The inspection is usually scheduled within 2-3 weeks. Total timeline from order to verified system: 4-6 weeks on average.
Do you service scales you didn't originally install?
Yes. We repair, calibrate, and service all scale types and brands across Oklahoma. If your existing scale needs recalibration, state re-verification, or component replacement, we can help.
How often do scales need recalibration?
For Legal-for-Trade scales, Oklahoma requires annual verification by weights and measures officials. However, scales should be professionally calibrated more frequently if used heavily—typically every 6-12 months depending on volume and accuracy requirements. We offer calibration services and coordinate state inspections.
What areas of Oklahoma do you serve?
We serve all of Oklahoma—from the Panhandle to Little Dixie. Our service area is divided into 9 regions: Oklahoma City Metro, Tulsa Metro, Northeast, North Central, Northwest, Panhandle, Southwest, South Central, and Southeast. View detailed county coverage →
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, personal checks, and invoice payment (terms available for qualified commercial accounts).
Are your scales made in the USA?
Yes. Sooner Scale systems are manufactured right here in Oklahoma City. We've been building precision scales in Oklahoma since 1969.
